When we visited Melbourne for the Queenslake exhibition we bumped into a quiet man up the back of the gallery snapping away at some fantastic graffiti. It turns out, the man taking the photos was the artist himself, the super talented dutch graffiti artist Does. We got chatting and it turns out that we shared a love of typography. Does is so into letters in fact, he co-founded a crew of 10 European graffiti artists dubbed ‘LoveLetters’.
Letterpress is a great medium for typography. The large flat colours of wood type and a simple layout have excelled for centuries. Times have changed though, so you can put the wood type back in the museum. Does’ incredibly detailed, well balanced letterforms with strong line work sculpt the paper so beautifully. The negative space really pops the letters right off the page. These are new letters, and this is what modern letterpress is all about.
We printed these limited edition prints in silver ink on 300gsm Crane Lettra.
