JAIMEE + JK’S STORYBOOK WEDDING

Every single detail of this wedding invitation suite was an absolute pleasure to design and letterpress print, from the carefully constructed storybook inspired typography to the unique envelope liners.

Perhaps the most striking element is the vintage drop caps, circa 1682. We found these in an old type specimen book which we carefully redrew, and modernised by splitting them into two plates. Pouring through old type manuals and bringing hand lettered type back to life is one of those indulgent pleasures that can only be understood if you are that way inclined.

We tried to capture the personalities of Jaimee & JK throughout the invitation suite. The quirky story we wrote (with a little help from a very talented friend) is brimming with character and printed in charcoal ink, with the details of the wedding highlighted in a neon pink accent colour. The invitation is accompanied by an RSVP postcard forming the second page of the story, with a return address letterpress printed on the back. Both pages are lovingly wrapped up with a bookmark inspired vertical belly band and matching pink ribbon.

The invitation and RSVP card were delivered in a kraft envelope letterpress printed with their return address and a very special envelope liner. We ran pages of pre-loved Golden Books through a die on our press to give each and every invitation (and thank you card) a unique, one-off envelope liner. Scouring the bookshelves of op shops was great fun and a great challenge, and it was very nostalgic pulling apart storybooks from our childhood.

We also printed a thank you ‘epilogue’ to follow up the invitation, with space for the happy couple to fill in their guests’ names and a heartfelt message.

Along with the invitation, we letterpress printed flags, escort tags and designed a super cute bonbonniere for their guests, though photos of these will have to wait until after the big day.

We had a great time working on each element but perhaps the most fun part was working with Jaimee and JK, two positively delightfuful people who were truly excellent clients. We wish them all the best!
