PHOTOGRAPHIC FIFTIES SUITE

Louise and Timothy were planning a 50s summer style wedding and letterpress provided an authentic production method for their invitations. Along with creating a design that was authentic for the theme, we added a few modern twists.

The design for the main invitation uses two overprinting halftone colours, creating a softer and wider spectrum of colour for the floral photography. Back in the day, the ultimate goal with letterpress was to show no sign of the production method, which meant absolutely no heavy impression. So, in keeping with the theme, the halftone is printed with an almost invisible impression, called a ‘kiss’ impression. We then put the main invitation through for a third pass for the blue text block in the centre, but this time with a much more modern–and heavier–’bite impression’.

The suite was accompanied by a dusty rose coloured gift card and an RSVP card in powder blue, the two colours that make up the halftone photo on the main invitation. The polkadot envelope liners were letterpress printed in the same dusty rose and tucked inside matching envelopes complete with a letterpress printed return address.

The invitations were typeset in Pluto and Wisdom script and printed on Stephen Scrambled White 330gsm, a 100% carbon neutral stock.
