Fourteen people from different creative industries forming seven collaborations makes Seven with Another, an innovative exhibition.
For the second exhibition pairs such as a photographer + magician, copy writer + fashion designer, graffiti artist + furniture designer (to name just a few) have been brought together to create original artwork. The result will be as unpredictable as it is exciting.
We were tasked with reinterpreting the ‘seven’ tally mark which forms the core visual identity of the exhibition. Each exhibition has the same poster layout but a new execution of the mark. We discovered that the six upright lines neatly coincided with the theme for the exhibition.
Our tally mark uses a combination of wood type, thanks to Bruce from Fine Print, and a geometric pattern. First and foremost we created the poster and postcard artwork for digital reproduction which formed the basis of the printed marketing collateral. Although letterpress is our primary passion we always relish the challenge to design for digital and offset printing.
Along with the large run of promotional posters we also created a limited edition set of letterpress prints for the event.
The combination of classic condensed sans wood type overprinted with a geometric photopolymer plate communicates the idea of succession within our beloved industry of letterpress. Though the wood type is yielding to the intricate polymer, it stands taller in its coat of fluorescent yellow. Wood type (and letterpress itself) is not going down without an aesthetic fight in the battle of Old vs New.
So do come along to the opening night, on Friday the 27th of May. You will see some incredible talents working together in unpredictable ways, and you will also get a chance to pick up one of the limited edition prints we created for the event.
